The difference here is the technology behind it. EC fans are the more modern type and can be infinitely regulated. They are also quieter and do not have a so-called “basic hum”. AC fans are not infinitely variable and therefore usually only have 1-3 levels between which you can switch. They are usually louder, but also cheaper to buy.
